Why I Create…

I grew up in a very creative family, my brothers and I were always drawing on church bulletins, painting our walls and writing movie scripts. We were filled with imagination and have wonderful parents that always gave us the opportunity to express it. So far my brothers have pursued careers in cooking, music, the military, electrical work, aerospace engineering, and I am still over here painting my walls, writing stories, and drawing in my journal during church. However my work now is filled with a little more purpose and meaning than it was when I was 8, still filled with much wonder though. For my personal projects, here’s something I wrote a few years ago that I use as a frame for the work I create…

“As a child of God, my art must embody the essence of the Creator, and can’t be that which is the same as what is being made already in the world. It should be infused with love, time and care. It should cause others to stop, stand and wonder. My goal is to reveal who God is through what I create and how I create it, so that they can be connected to the garden just as I am. It should connect people in a meaningful way that brings them back to a place of remembering who God is.”

This same idea plays into the work I get to create for other people, whether it’s design, writings, painting or even photography. Art isn’t something I just pursue because it’s fun or I make money, but because it draws me closer to the Lord and others as well. He’s the one who gave me eyes to see someone’s vision for their business, the one who filled me with the strength to stay up late nights painting and the one who fills me with ideas. My creativity comes from the Lord, the ultimate creator, and because it’s from him, it’s a love of mine, something I pursue daily and something I’ve gotten to pursue as a career.

I thought you might like to know why I do what I do.
